The lovely Jane of Finding Fabulous asked me to be her guest blogger today.  I shared a few of my favorite projects right here.  I'm sure you all know Jane from her great blog, beautiful home, and her Frugalicious Friday link up Party.  But if not, be sure to stop by and say hello!

Thanks so much Jane for having me over!

Lamp Redo

I am re-posting my lamp makeover project that was originally posted on Remodelaholic last week.  I apologize if you've already seen it!
..
.
I recently took an old lamp from my Grandparents house.  When I saw it, I was pretty sure that I could put it too good use somewhere in my house.  I had it for a few weeks and decided that with a little work it could work really nicely in my guest room.
.
When I found the lamp it looked like this:
.
.
.
I loved the shape, but it definitely was old and dated.
.
First, I spray painted the base with a few coats of Krylon 'Dover White' in a gloss finish.
.
Then I got to work on recovering the shade.  Originally, I was planning on buying a new shade.  But the old shade was in great shape and I decided it would be easy to recover myself.
.
To recover a shade, you will need fabric, seam binding and craft glue.
.
The fabric I used is Better Homes & Gardens by Richloom Fabrics Group.  I bought it at Joanns and I looked for it online but I can't find it.
.
.
I used trace paper to make a template for the fabric.  You could also use a large section of newspaper or even wrapping paper.  Just wrap the trace paper around the entire lamp shade, use a pencil to trace the outline of the shade, and cut out.  Once I had the template, I pinned it on to the fabric and cut out my fabric.  Make sure to leave an inch or two of extra fabric around each side.
.
.
Next, I used spray adhesive to attach the fabric to the shade.  Spray adhesive is VERY sticky, so make sure you do it outside or in a garage!
.
.
After using the spray adhesive, the shade looked like this:
.
.
Trim the extra fabric so that about a 1/2" remains.  That will give you just enough to fold over and secure the edge.
.
Use craft glue or a hot glue gun to attach fabric to inside of shade.  I use Aleene's Original Tacky Glue.
.
.
Where the two edges or fabric overlap, fold over and press one side to create a finished seam, and then glue down with craft glue.
.
Here's how the edges looked:
.
.
You could leave the edges like this, but I decided to add seam binding to both the top and bottom edges for a nice, finished look.  I used craft glue for this too.
.
.
Here's the finished lamp in my guest room:

Weekend Kitchen...Peach Blueberry Galette

.
I finally made a galette!  It's been on my list for a long time and after seeing the delicious one that Kendall made I wanted to make one right away!
.
.
* Ingredients for Pie Crust:
-  2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 sticks (8 ounces, 16 tablespoons or 1 cup) unsalted butter, very cold
.
* Note: Pie crust recipe makes enough for two galette (or one top & bottom pie crust)
.
I have a thing for making homemade pie crust.  Follow Smitten Kitchen's awesome tutorial for homemade pie dough and you will never buy a pre-made crust again!  I am not going to re-type Smitten's directions - so, print out her tutorial and keep it with your cookbooks - you will use it time and time again!
.
Make the pie dough first, refrigerate, and then prepare filling.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
.
.
Ingredients for galette filling:
- 2 c. blueberries
- 5 peaches, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 c. sugar (I used Turbinado sugar but regular will work just fine)
- 1tsp. lemon juice
- egg white (optional)
.
.
Mix filling ingredients together in a bowl and set aside.
.
Roll out pie dough .  I decided to bake the galette on my pizza stone but a cookie sheet would work just as well.  If you use a cookie sheet, you might want to line with parchment paper first so that the crust doesn't stick.
.
Pour filling into a mound in the center of dough.
.
.
Fold up the sides and it will look something like this:
.
.
If you'd like, brush the dough with egg white and then sprinkle with sugar.
.
.
Bake for 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
.
A word of warning about baking - if you use a pizza stone or an un-rimmed cookie sheet, you might want to place a liner in the over.  My filling started to creep off of the pizza stone and drip all over the oven while it was baking.
.
Let cool and enjoy!

Home Tour...The Craft Room

.
It's time for the next installment of my home tour.   Today I am sharing my craft room.  The first stop was my screen porch and can be found here.  The next stop was my kitchen and can be found here.
.
My craft room is located in my basement and is the only room in my house with out windows.  I really wish it had natural light but I still feel very lucky to have a space completely dedicated to crafting & sewing!
.
.
The table is an old architect's drafting table I got from work a few years back. It really needs to be refinished but I still love it!  The architectural firm I work for is 85 years old and I think it's neat to have something that was actually used once by an architect at my firm - back when drawings were still done by hand!
.
.
The shelving unit was an entertainment center from IKEA that I used in my last house. I was glad to be able to put it to use in my craft room! The drafting table sits where the TV used to be.
.
.
I keep an old TV in here - you just never know when you might want to watch a movie and sew at the same time!
.
.
My wrapping paper and ribbon wall rack hangs on one wall.  You can see how I made it by clicking the picture on my sidebar.  The drafting table makes a great spot for wrapping presents.  It's usually covered with wrapping paper and other supplies during the entire month of December.  Come to think of it, the whole floor is usually covered in Christmas paper and ribbon then too!
.
.
The paint color is Benjamin Moore; Golden Straw 2152-50.
.
.
The old metal table came from my Grandparent's basement.
.
.
I love this "Get Excited and Make Things" print.  The best part about it is that it was free! I found this print from a post by Catherine @ Peace Love Sweater.   To print your own copy go here.
.
.
.
Thanks for touring my craft room!

Weekend Kitchen . . . Farmers Market Pasta

.
Are you sick of my summer pasta recipes yet?  Specifically, vegetarian pastas with basil?  If you don't like basil or pasta you probably aren't enjoying my blog too much!  This summer has been busy and I haven't had time for too many projects around the house but I have been cooking.  A girl's gotta eat, right?
.
.
I first started making this pasta last summer after seeing it on The Cooking Photographer.  Laura has a wonderful blog and if you like to cook, definitely check out her site.  It's one of the first blogs I started to read.  Click here to see Laura's original recipe.  If this even at all sounds good to you - try it - it's great!
.
.
Ingredients:
.
- ½ pound spaghetti (1/2 package)

- 1 cup reserved pasta water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ onion, diced
- 1 ½ cups baby zucchini, sliced into thin rounds ( I used a combination of zucchini and summer squash)
- yellow or red bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups (1 pint) cherry tomatoes, sliced in half
- 2 handfuls chopped fresh basil
- 1 (5.5 ounce) package goat cheese, crumbled
- salt & pepper to taste
.
.
Boil the spaghetti according to package directions.  Set aside 1 cup of the pasta water when you drain the pasta. Place the spaghetti in a large bowl or return to pot.
.
Warm the olive oil in a skillet over medium high heat, add the diced onion.  Season with salt & pepper. Cook for a couple minutes until the onions start to soften a bit. Add the zucchini, squash, and bell pepper and cook for 2 more minutes.  Add the minced garlic & cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant.
.

.
Add the mixture to the spaghetti.  Add the tomatoes, basil, goat cheese, reserved pasta water & salt and pepper to the spaghetti & toss to combine. Stir until goat cheese is melted.  Wait about 5 minutes for the sauce to thicken and serve.
.

.
This pasta is delicious and is one of my favorite summer meals.  It's the perfect way to use all the farm fresh vegetables at the market right now.
.
.
