Still Sewing. . .

.
I was inspired by Darby's post (here) to make a dish mat.  Darby said she was going to use it when unloading dishes from the dishwasher.  I thought that was a great idea - it seems like I am forever drying some dish next to the sink and this is so much cuter than a regular dish towel!
.
I had just enough Amy Butler fabric leftover from the apron I made for my Mom to make the dish mat.  If I had more fabric, I think I would have made it just a tad larger.  The finished size I ended up with is 19" x 26".

To finish the mat I sewed a straight seam down each area where the fabric was joined together.  This was to hold the face fabric to the towel and also to add a decorative touch:

Finished and in action next to my kitchen sink:

So much cuter than a plain old dish towel, right?

  1. This is REALLY cute, and I think the fabric is what makes it. I love the print--I wish I knew how to sew!

  2. I LOVE Amy Butler. I made aprons too, one for me and one for my daughter. Just yesterday my sister and I went shopping and bought some Midwest Modern fabric to make throw pillows for her master!

  4. Hi Amy. I like this idea. I do wonder how you finished the edges. If you have a little time, perhaps a quick explanation. I'm not much of a sewer but am learning. Thanks for you time. Deb
