Gingerbread Houses

.
My sister and I have a tradition of making gingerbread houses with our 8 year old brother every Christmas.  We compete against each other to see who can come up with the best house.  It's pretty fun!
.

To make the house pieces I use a set of cookie cutters from William Sonoma.  The first year we made the houses I used cardboard templates and cut the pieces myself which worked out great until we tried to put our roofs on - they would not stay up no matter what we tried!  We've been using the cookie cutters ever since.  Notice the handy "roof hooks".  Works like a charm.

My sister and I went out to Arizona right after Christmas this year.  So, I made the gingerbread at home, bubble wrapped it, and carried it on the plane.    Yes, I know, I am a insane.   It was definitely scrutinized at security, but it made it through. You gotta do what you gotta do, right?

E made this bubble gum fence but then didn't like it and took it all down!

Here I am helping E with his roof - he redid his roof three times until he finally settled on green frosting with sprinkles on it.
