Golf Club Wall Decor

I got back late Monday night from a great vacation in Arizona and have lots to catch up on.  In the meantime, I thought I would share this project which was my October guest post at Remodelaholic.
.
I have three golf clubs that once belonged to my Grandpa.  They aren't especially valuable or antique, but because they are meaningful to me, I wanted a special way to display them.  They leaned up against a wall in my lower level until I finally came up with a simple idea to show them off a little better.
.
.
Supplies you will need:
- Plywood board cut to desired size (Mine is 22" x 47")
- 1/2" x 1-1/2" moulding strips
- miter box
- nails
- mending brace
- fabric to cover board
- staple gun & staples
- nail head trim
- cup hooks
- picture hanging supplies
.
.
.
Measure moulding strips and miter corners.  This is not hard but requires a little bit of thinking to ensure that your measurements for the mitered corners are correct.  As the old saying goes - measure twice - cut once!
.
.
Once your moulding strips are cut & mitered, and the fit is good, you will need to attach them to your board. Use wood glue to attach them to the back of the board. Once dry, turn over and nail along all edges to secure from the front side of the board.
.
.
Attach a mending brace at each corner to ensure a sturdy finished piece.
.
.
Now it's time for the fun part!  Use a staple gun to attach fabric to board.
.
.
.
I decided to add a little nail head trim at each corner for a decorative accent.
.
.
.
You will need a way to hang your new wall art.  Attach "D-ring" hangers to each side and then attach picture hanging wire.
.
.
.
.
Next, determine where you want your golf clubs to lay on the board.
.
.
Use a pencil to mark where you need to install the cup hooks.
.
.
Attach cup hooks and your project is finished and ready to hang!
.
.
.
.
This project could easily be modified to for many sports - I think tennis rackets, hockey
sticks, or baseball bats would be fun.
.
The fabric I used is by Waverly and is called Cross Section, color: green.  You can purchase it here.

Time for Vacation...AZ here I come!

.
Today I'm headed off to Arizona for vacation.  I'm really looking forward to 10 days of relaxing and not being at work!  But most of all I'm looking forward to spending time with two of my favorite people...

{ World's Cutest Brother and Baby Sister }
.
I've decided not to bring my laptop {gasp!} and instead have packed lots of books to read...
.
.
And my knitting needles.  I'm working on making this

.
Family, books, knitting, the pool, and the sun?  Yep, I'm good!
.
See you at the end of the month!

Another Lamp Redo

.
I really enjoyed how my guest room lamp redo turned out and decided to make-over one in my living room.  I've had this lamp for a long time - probably 6 or 7 years.  There was nothing wrong with it and I still really liked it, it just was looking a little dark and was begging for an update.
.
Here's the lamp before:
.
.
See all the brown and dark tones?  Please try and ignore those nasty cords too!
.
A little primer, spray paint, and fabric, and my lamp was transformed.
.
.
 .
I really like the new lighter tones and I love that fabric on the shade!  I had just enough leftover from my bulletin board project.  I couldn't find this exact color online, but Fabric.com has it in a similar color.  I actually bought some of that color recently for an upcoming project - it was a great price and I couldn't resist.
.
The spray paint I used was Krylon, Dover White.
.
.
After I covered the shade with the new fabric I used bias tape to cover the edges, just like I did in my first lamp redo.
.
.
For step, by step directions, see my original lamp redo post here.

Happy October!

.
It's been a busy few weeks {Last weekend I went up to Michigan State for tailgating and the game, the weekend before I was in Chicago, and the weekend before that I was in a wedding}.  I haven't had time to cook, or work on new projects, so I thought I would share a few pictures of a trip I took last October.  My Mom, aunts, cousins, and I spent the weekend in Northern Michigan visiting wineries.  Northern Michigan is beautiful anytime of the year, but I think it's even more beautiful in the fall.  We stayed in Traverse City and visited the wineries on the Old Mission Peninsula.

I hope everyone is having a good start to October.  I'm still trying to figure out how it's October already?
